ALBANY — The Indiana fans here in attendance at MVP Arena are definitely loud midway through the fourth quarter. A Sydney Parrish 3-pointer cut South Carolina’s deficit to five, and a Yarden Garzon 3-point attempt on IU’s ensuing offensive possession would have really made those in attendance erupt in delight, had it gone down. South Carolina called a timeout with 6:36 to play, and we’ll see how it comes out of it.
Dawn Staley said Thursday that she expected a close Sweet 16 matchup. “Teri does a great job of coaching up her team on both sides of the basketball,” she said of IU’s coach Teri Moren. “It won’t be a cakewalk. I hope it is, favoring us, but I know in my heart of hearts, in my basketball knowledge and understanding of prepping for them, it’s going to be a really hard game.”
Certainly IU has hung around more than a lot of others — excluding Staley — expected.
